Last week I was helping my 8 year old son with a crossword puzzle and one of the questions was: What is a baby horse called?
We tried fitting the word FOAL into the spot but the only one that worked was COLT….hmm, I was pretty sure this was the correct answer but only if you knew the baby horse was a boy!
Little did I know that while we discussed the correct answer a serendipitous event was unfolding only a few kilometres away!
As fate would have it, the next day during a chance meeting I was asked if I liked horses, when I answered ‘yes’ enthusiastically, I was lead to a paddock where a little foal had been born only a few hours prior! I later found out that this little foal was indeed a COLT!!
After seeing this little guy on his first day of life, I asked if I could come back a few days later to take some photos.
Respectfully I stayed at a distance and kept very quiet while I managed to capture a few little moments of this colt’s life….what struck me other than how darn cute he was, was how tired yet stoic and calm the mum was!I hope she gets a chance to lie down with her little colt!

Beautiful photos Sue- you really need to do more “horsing around”- you are great at it! Xx Jeanette
Thanks Jeanette!! For sure I will 🙂
