Creativity and Vulnerability….the life we choose to lead.

Every day is a new day, every moment is a new moment…embracing this philosophy in life has helped me to get past the mistakes I make, the hiccups in life, the road blocks and plan changes that happen when you least expect them.

Yesterday (like many days) as I contemplated sharing a new blog post I had written, I was once again frozen still by the thought that perhaps I needed to be a better writer, photographer, film maker, business owner etc etc (the list could be endless)….before I hit the “publish” button on any of my ramblings…

The most refreshing thought accompanying this was that I knew without a shadow of a doubt I was not alone.

I sighed a big sigh, started editing photos instead and decided to listen to one of Chase Jarvis’s many amazing interviews. I chose to listen to his interview with Brene Brown and as fate would have it, the universe had pointed me in the right direction and I was hearing precisely what I needed to hear!

There were many incredible quotes that came out of that interview, the one that resonated with me the most in regards to writing and posting blogs right now was this one:

“There is no creativity without vulnerability”

Brene Brown has stepped up and shown her vulnerable side through Ted Talks, online courses, books and many speaking engagements. From her many years of intense research she is prepared to discuss her findings and put a mirror up to the world to help us all live a more wholehearted life…

I have seen her speak on TEDtalks. I have participated in her e-course (thanks to a lovely friend who asked me to join her) AND I have read her books “The Gifts of Imperfection” and” Daring Greatly”…it touched nerves, made me think about who I really am and how I respond to my world.

Brene Brown: Daring Greatly

After listening to this long form interview (be prepared, make yourself a cup of tea, get comfortable and take it all in),this time around what struck me the most was just how many of us are constantly dancing the crazy dance between creativity and vulnerability every single day.

Here is a little video I created a year ago whilst we were in the midst of Brene’s “Gifts of Imperfection” course…I was nervous about sharing it the first time as I could see all the imperfections…but my mantra soon became “It’s perfectly imperfect, just get it out there and share!”…

This time and from now on, regardless of whether I think it is good enough or not I am going to hit “publish” and share with whoever wishes to see what I have to share and encourage others to go out and dare greatly!

Enjoy!:
